Student Involvement Resources

Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Student Involvement

This area promotes Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students' involvement and engagement on campus, fostering the personal, ethnic and racial identity as well as the leadership development of APIDA students at the University of Maryland.

Black Student Involvement

Black Student Involvement supports and creates community through our advisement of students and student organizations, who self-identify as being a part of the African Diaspora and promotes opportunities for leadership and civic engagement. The unit advocates for the educational, social, and cultural needs of students through peer and faculty-staff mentoring.

Latine Student Involvement

Latine/o/a/x Student Involvement & Advocacy promotes student development and campus participation for Latino students. We are committed to the creation and maintenance of a campus environment where Latino identity and issues are affirmed and supported. We are committed to helping students to succeed at the University through opportunities for personal growth, organizational involvement and community development.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer

LGBTQ+ Student Involvement & Advocacy promotes student development and campus participation for students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and other sexual/gender minorities. We are committed to the creation and maintenance of a campus environment where LGBTQ+ identity and issues are affirmed and supported.

Multiracial & Transracial Adoptee Student Involvement

Multiracial, multiethnic, and transracial adoptee students have been one of the fastest growing populations at the University over the last several years. The Coordinator for Multicultural Student Involvement will support this student population through the promotion of specific involvement, leadership, recognition and learning opportunities. We are committed to the creation and maintenance of a campus environment where multiracial, multiethnic, and transracial adoptee identities and issues are affirmed and supported.

Native American and Indigenous Student Involvement

Native American and Indigenous Student Involvement focuses on engaging, supporting, and fostering understanding for our diverse Indigenous and Native American communities. We also seek to educate the UMD community about Indigenous community, history and culture, and are committed to the creation and maintenance of a campus environment where Native American/Indigenous identities and issues are affirmed and supported.

Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) Student Involvement

This is a new involvement area, brought about by the years-long hard-won advocacy of the UMD student community. SWANA refers to the region commonly referred to as the "Middle East", ranging from Morocco to Afghanistan. By using geographical language rather than political language to describe the region and it's people, “We use SWANA to speak to the diversity of our communities and to forward the most vulnerable in our liberation” (SWANA Alliance). As a new involvement area, we are still building and learning how we will best support and advocate for the community. Contact us to help share your voice and build our foundation for the future!
