First-Generation Students
Are you a first-generation student? 20% of Terps are — that's over 6,100 undergraduates.
A first-generation college student is someone whose parents or guardians have not completed a bachelor's degree. The first-generation identity is woven throughout UMD, from students all the way to first-gen college graduates like President Pines and Vice President for Student Affairs Perillo.
The Stamp Student Union is proud to celebrate the annual National First-Generation College Celebration on November 8. This date commemorates the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965 that expanded higher education access for first-generation students. Watch the video below for a message from Vice President for Student Affairs Perillo.

UMD is recognized as a FirstGen Forward Network Leader from FirstGen Forward (formerly NASPA's Center for First-generation Student Success). We are committed to supporting and advancing success for our first-generation students through data-driven and infrastructure-building tools and leadership.
