The 2025 Spirit of Maryland Award

The Spirit of Maryland Award is presented annually, in lieu of a traditional Homecoming King or Queen honoree, to two members of the senior class who through their achievements have most exemplified the "spirit" of the University of Maryland. Criteria for the award include outstanding scholarship, leadership, campus involvement, community service, and communication skills. A committee composed of faculty, staff, and alumni interviews students who are advanced to the final round of the application process.


Important Dates for Applicants to Keep in Mind

  • Monday, September 8 - Nominations Process Opens, Faculty, staff, and students can make submissions
  • Friday, September 19 - Nominations Close and Application Process Begins
  • Friday, October 3 - Application Process Closes
  • Monday, October 20 - Award Finalists Are Notified
  • Friday, October  24 - Finalists Interviewed
  • Friday, October 31 - Saturday, November 1 - Finalists Participate in Homecoming Events

On Friday evening, finalists will be introduced at the Terp Carnival on McKeldin Mall. They will be introduced again on Saturday at the Homecoming Leadership Reception at Stamp, and at half-time during the football game at Maryland Stadium. Winners will be announced at both the reception and game.
