The 2023 Spirit of Maryland Award

The Spirit of Maryland Award is presented annually, in lieu of a traditional Homecoming King or Queen honoree, to two members of the senior class who through their achievements have most exemplified the "spirit" of the University of Maryland. Criteria for the award include outstanding scholarship, leadership, campus involvement, community service, and communication skills. A committee composed of faculty, staff, and alumni interviews students who are advanced to the final round of the application process.

Lucas Frankle (Luh-kiss Frankull) is a Bioengineering major from Huntingtown, Maryland. His leadership and involvement experiences include the following activities: President of Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity, Researcher for the Huang Bioengineering Laboratory, Participated in Habitat for Humanity Spring Break Service Trips.

She is from Clarksburg, Maryland.  Her leadership and involvement experiences include the following activities: Intern for the Alternative Breaks Program, Co-President of the Maryland Public Interest Research Group, Medical scribe at the Orthopedics Association of Maryland.

Anabelle Grant (Anne-nuh-bell Grant) is a Criminology & Criminal Justice and Government & Politics double major from Easton, Maryland. Her leadership and involvement experiences include the following activities: Chair of the Student Conduct Review Coalition, Community Advocate for the University Student Judiciary, and the Events and Lectures Chair of Omicron Delta Kappa.
