Top 5 Actions to Support Your Organization
1 | A Current Staff Advisor?
2 | Verify Your Status on the Tracking Sheet
Once submitted, check the public Advisor Agreement Tracking Sheet to ensure your entry appears with an accurate timestamp and list of organizations. Student officers reference this sheet before filing their TerpLink application.
3 | Proactively Check In With Your Student Leaders
Have you emailed, texted, or talked with the organizations you advise or have close relationships with? Now is the time, send a quick check in email to see if they need help or have any questions about registration.
4 | Point Leaders to SORC Self-Service Tools
Direct your student officers to the official Registration Guide, track checklists, and sample constitution templates.
5 | Attend Our Advisor Registration Training
This event looks to introduce you to the SORC student organization registration process at UMD and ways they can support their organization. Interested advisors should RSVP, even if you are only able to stop by for part of the program, we would love to have you.
Advisor Eligibility & Compliance Policies
Employment Eligibility & Graduate Assistants
Eligible Personnel: An advisor must be a current faculty or staff employee of the University of Maryland, College Park.
Graduate Assistant Eligibility: Graduate students may serve as the official advisor only if they hold an active university graduate assistantship (GA, TA, or RA appointment). General graduate students without an active assistantship cannot fulfill this role.
Annual Advisor Agreement
Annual Requirement: Advisor agreements are valid for one year, per organization. A new agreement must be submitted annually for each organization you advise, during their registration window.
Strictly Self-Completed: Only the listed advisor may complete and submit this form. Student officers are strictly prohibited from submitting the agreement on their advisor's behalf.
Multi-Org Advising: If you advise multiple student organizations, you can submit multiple unique organizations in one agreement submission.
Separation of Governance Roles
Officer Restrictions: Faculty and staff advisors cannot serve as the President or Treasurer of the organization.
Student-Led Principle: Registered student organizations must be directed and controlled by currently enrolled students. While advisors provide mentorship, institutional context, and continuity, all decisions and voting authority remain with student leaders.
