SurabhiHi! I’m Surabhi, a Data Science Master's student at UMD and the STEM Tutor Program Leader with Veteran Student Life. I’m a former software engineer with a degree in Computer Engineering. I’m here to ensure student veterans have the academic support they need to thrive, and I care deeply about this community. Outside of work, you’ll find me reading mystery novels or Indian mythology, sketching, playing badminton, or spending time with dogs. If you ever have questions about the tutoring program, don’t hesitate to reach out - we’ve got you!

Real People, Real Feedback

80% of our students surpass their initial grade expectations with the tutoring program!

I didn't understand anything at first. Emily made it very digestible and always showed the work why and explained thoroughly with any questions I had. She always followed up with anything left unanswered via email or in the next tutoring session.

The veterans tutor service was a valuable asset as an adult learner returning to graduate studies after many years' hiatus from formal classwork.

Crotty Family Endowed Fund for VSL STEM Tutoring

Robert Mark Crotty ‘80 and the Crotty family are pleased to establish the Crotty Family Veteran Student Life STEM Tutoring Support Fund to extend financial assistance to veterans attending the University of Maryland. This fund, alongside the Robert B. and Dorothy L. Crotty Veterans Scholarship established in 2018, represents the family’s desire to support the University of Maryland veteran community and programs. Both have been established in recognition of the World War II and Korean War naval service of Cdr. Robert B. Crotty, USN Ret., and the World War II civilian wartime service of his wife, Dorothy L. Crotty.

The Crotty family’s aspiration is that their support of the VSL STEM Tutoring program will provide critical assistance to bridge the gap between high school and the continuation of education after military service, enabling veterans to excel in their STEM studies. By providing financial assistance for comprehensive tutoring needs such as iPads, transcription and notetaking software and additional resources, veterans can continue to stand tall and reach their post-service career aspirations.
