Becoming Brokers and Advocates for Social Change Fall Workshop
Friday, October 30, 10 AM – 2 PM , STAMP Student Union Prince George’s Room RSVP for the Fall Workshop
College Park, MD. The Stamp Gallery is pleased to present Rich With Love: A Decade of Remembrance, in partnership with the Bowie State University-University of Maryland Social Justice Alliance. As both campuses approach ten years since the loss of 1st Lt. Richard W. Collins III, this exhibition honors Lt. Collins’ life, legacy, and humanity while creating space for collective reflection on love, loss, justice, belonging, and remembrance. Too often, acts of racial violence reduce individuals to headlines, statistics, or symbols. This exhibition includes artworks which resist that erasure by centering the fullness of life, memory, and human connection. Rich with Love is both a remembrance and an invitation, an interrogation of how we bear witness to violence without allowing it to define the lives taken, and how art can function as a tool for healing, truth-telling, and social transformation.
The exhibit takes inspiration from "Rich with Love: A Mini-Documentary on 1st Lt. Richard W. Collins III", which can be watched here on YouTube and in the gallery during the exhibition.
The artworks in this exhibition were contributed by community members from Bowie State University, the University of Maryland, College Park, and beyond. As part of this exhibition, the selection committee, composed of representatives from the Collins family, Bowie State University, and the University of Maryland will select three pieces to receive a cash award: $500 for first place, $350 for second place, and $200 for third. The award winners will be announced at the closing reception on Thursday, December 10. RSVP for the Reception.
SJA presents "Becoming Brokers and Advocates for Social Change"- October 30th, 2026
You're invited to the Becoming Brokers and Advocates for Social Change Fall Workshop hosted by the BSU-UMD Social Justice Alliance and 2nd Lt. Richard W. Collins III Foundation facilitated by Dr. Victoria Alexander Thompson and Dr. Rashawn Ray at the University of Maryland, College Park.
This workshop invites participants to explore the critical role of advocacy, civic engagement, and social justice in advancing equity and strengthening democracy regardless of your experience. As we approach the ten-year remembrance of 1st Lt. Richard W. Collins III, we honor his legacy by equipping the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to challenge injustice, expand access to civic participation, and create meaningful social change. Through interactive sessions and specialized learning tracks, participants will move beyond awareness to action, developing the tools necessary to become effective brokers and advocates within their communities and institutions.
The BSU-UMD SJA Fall Workshop will be held on Friday, October 30th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, STAMP Student Union Prince George's Room. Lunch will be provided for attendees. Please RSVP by Friday, October 16th.
