Women's History Month 2025

Resistance Is Its Own Reward

The theme of Women’s History Month 2025 draws inspiration from Haunani-Kay Trask, a Native Hawaiian activist, educator, author, poet, and a leader of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement. “Resistance Is Its Own Reward”, one of Trask’s most famous quotes from the text Native Daughter: Colonialism and Sovereignty in Hawai'i, empowers and compels us to remember that our work towards equity, freedom, and justice may not be fully realized within our lifetimes.

As keepers of culture and identity, women are often at the forefront of revolution and cultural preservation in the face of domination and erasure. We invite you to honor these roles and consider not only how you practice resistance, but also how you stand on the shoulders of those before you and continue to build the road to freedom from oppression for those who come next.
