Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D. is the 10th President of Spelman College and Dean Emerita of the Tisch School of the Arts and served as the Vice Chair of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities under former President Barack Obama, Dr. Campbell is author of “An American Odyssey: The Life and Work of Romare Bearden” (2018) from Oxford University Press which received the 2018 Hooks National Book Award from the Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis. Campbell’s book offers a full and complete retrospective on the life and work of Romare Bearden.
